Updates to SLCC COVID-19 protocols

Salt Lake Community College thanks everyone for having the flexibility of a world-class gymnast as we continue to navigate this ever-changing pandemic, and we’d like to provide you with the latest updates regarding self-reporting, COVID testing and masking.

Self-Reporting and Isolation/Quarantine Protocols

We’ve recently made some changes to our self-reporting protocols. Starting immediately, you only need to fill out the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form if you had a positive test, you were DIRECTLY exposed to someone who tested positive, or if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. You no longer need to fill out the report if you test negative for the virus.

If you test positive for COVID-19, if you are experiencing symptoms of the virus, or if you are unvaccinated and you are directly exposed, plan to quarantine for 10 days. The contact tracers, who will reach you through the information you provided on the self-reporting form, will let you know about additional protocols that might apply to your situation. If your vaccinations are up-to-date, you do not need to quarantine if you have been exposed to COVID-19; however, you must wear a mask while on campus for 10 days.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT OUR CONTACT TRACERS ARE EXTREMELY BUSY AT THIS TIME. Since the beginning of the pandemic, SLCC’s dedicated contact tracers have worked hard to reach out to each person in our community who has filled out the self-reporting form. As you might imagine, with cases so high right now it is taking them longer to reach to everyone. Please be patient and they will get back to you with all the information you need regarding your quarantine as well a timeline for your return to campus. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our contact tracers and for all they do to keep everyone at the college safe and well.

Should you need to quarantine or isolate, please reach out to your supervisor, if you are an employee, or your instructors, if you are a student. This way, work-from-home or online learning arrangements can be made.

Here are the latest quarantine/isolation guidelines for the college:

If you are vaccinated and you are directly exposed to COVID-19:

If you are vaccinated and test positive for COVID-19, you should:

  • Report your positive test result through SLCC's COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form.
  • Isolate at home for 10 days.
  • SLCC contact tracers will reach out to you with further instructions and information on protocols. All are required to follow the instructions provided by SLCC's contact tracers.

If you are unvaccinated (or not boosted per vaccine guidelines) and you are directly exposed to COVID-19, you should:

  • Report your exposure through SLCC's COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form.
  • Quarantine at home for 10 days.
  • SLCC contact tracers will reach out to you and provide you with further instruction and additional information on quarantine protocols. All are required to adhere to the instructions provided by SLCC's contact tracers.
  • If you develop symptoms, get tested and stay home.

If you are unvaccinated (or not boosted per vaccine guidelines) and you test positive for COVID-19, you should:

  • Report your positive test result through SLCC's COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form.
  • Isolate at home for 10 days.
  • SLCC contact tracers will reach out to you and will provide you with further instruction and additional information on quarantine protocols. All are required to follow the instructions provided by SLCC's contact tracers.

On-campus Testing

As you have probably heard, there is a shortage of COVID-19 tests throughout the country. SLCC is continuing its efforts to secure as many tests as possible, but we simply don’t have enough. For that reason, the college is asking all students and employees to limit the use of on-campus testing facilities to only once every 14 days. We encourage everyone to use the online appointment tool in advance – walk-in requests will be asked to use that tool upon their arrival at the testing site.

On-campus testing will continue to only be available to those who are asymptomatic. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, seek out one of the many testing facilities in the community. Find one that works for you at Utah's Department of Health website.

Each household can also receive four at-home COVID-19 tests through the U.S. Postal Service. These are great to have on hand should you need them. If you’d like to order these tests, click here.

Salt Lake County Mask Mandate

Though there is no longer a mandate to wear masks indoors in Salt Lake County, SLCC strongly encourages everyone to wear a proper-fitting face covering (N95 and KN95 masks are preferable) while in the classroom or hallways of our buildings as the Omicron variant continues to surge here in Utah.

Again, thank you for being patient, understanding and, yes, flexible during this pandemic. And let’s all continue to do our best to promote a safe and healthy learning environment for everyone.

SLCC Business School is Utah’s First to be Named Exclusively After a Woman

Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) proudly announces a partnership with the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation to modernize its Business Building and transform its School of Business. The improvements are made possible through a generous $10 million gift from the Miller Family Foundation and Gail Miller, the largest-ever single cash donation received by the college.  SLCC is renaming its Business Building the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Business Building in honor of the Miller family’s legacy and contributions to the community. The business school will be named the Gail Miller School of Business in recognition of the strong business acumen Gail Miller displays as a community leader and as the owner and immediate past chair of the Larry H. Miller Company. This name change will make SLCC home to the only business school in Utah and one of only a few in the country to be named exclusively after a woman.  “We are deeply humbled by the generosity of Gail and the Miller fam
