Effective Online Instruction Webinars Learning Community
As you continue to move your courses to remote learning this semester, we want to provide you with resources to make your work as effective as possible. The Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) has put together a series of live webinars happening over the next three weeks covering key topics in online education. Although these webinars are more focused on best practices in carefully planned online education rather than the emergency remote education that we're doing in the face of the COVID-19 crisis, many of these practices will be adaptable to our circumstances this semester and can help to prepare you to take our own Online Teacher Credential course if you are interested in teaching online courses in the future.

We will continue the discussions begun in these webinars in a Virtual Learning Community. There will be three meetings of this Learning Community with each covering two webinar topics. The schedule will be:

  • April 17 – 1–2 p.m.
    • Organizing your Online Courses (Live 4/9/2020 at 12 p.m. MDT)
    • Planning and Facilitating Quality Discussions (Live 4/14/2020 at 12 p.m. MDT)
  • April 23 – 1–2 p.m.
    • Recording Effective Microlectures (Live 4/17/2020 at 12 p.m. MDT)
    • Engaging Students in Readings and Micro-Lectures (Live 4/20/2020 at 12 p.m. MDT)

All of these webinars are available during their live times or to download afterwards from the ACUE WEBSITE. Their dates have been included next to their names. Whether or not you get the chance to watch or listen to the webinars before the meeting, feel free to come to discuss these topics with your SLCC colleagues. Register for this event through your MySLCC portal under the Employee tab.

HB 261 and HB 257 Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students: The Utah Legislature recently passed two bills that significantly impact higher education:  HB 261  Equal Opportunity Initiatives and HB  257  Sex-Based Designations for Privacy, Anti-Bullying, and Women’s Opportunities. Salt Lake Community College is deeply committed to our students, faculty, and staff. We strive to be a place where all are welcomed and respected. While there are many unknowns about the ultimate effect these bills will have on some student and staff support programs, be assured that SLCC will maintain an environment where all can find success and feel a sense of belonging. In the coming months, college leadership will work to gain clarity and determine the changes necessary for legislative compliance. We will also share this information as it becomes available.  We realize that during this time, some in our college community may feel unsettled and stressed. We encourage you to make use of available SLCC resources designed to support y
