Take Part In a Virtual Day of Service

For Salt Lake Community College’s April #SLCCserves Day of Service, SLCC is supporting a virtual day of service! The college will be encouraging everyone to support one of the virtual volunteer opportunities below. There is also an opportunity to connect via Webex (link will be emailed) on April 18, at 1 p.m. for a short reflection. Be sure to RSVP if you plan to virtually volunteer or donate blood!

Feel free to take pictures of you working and share it on social media! You can tag the Thayne Center at @SLCC_serves on Instagram, @ThayneCenter on Twitter and @ThayneCenterSLCC on Facebook. You can also use the hashtag #SLCCServes. Be sure to include what’s going on, who you’re working with, etc.

Sign in or register to RSVP by clicking here.

American Red Cross Blood Donation:

The original April project was with the Red Cross and we'd still like to promote ways for people to aid them! The American Red Cross now faces a severe blood shortage due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations in response to the coronavirus outbreak. Healthy individuals are needed now to donate to help patients counting on lifesaving blood.
Individuals can schedule an appointment to give blood with the American Red Cross by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or activating the Blood Scheduling Skill for Amazon Alexa.

Natural History Museum of Utah:

Our Field Note Transcription Project contributes directly to helping our collections staff digitize their historical field notes to make them readily available for researchers and the public online.

Better Days 2020:

We need your help to write Utah women into history! Only about 18% of Wikipedia’s English-language biographies are of women, but we can change that! While we're all staying home, help Better Days 2020 add information on notable Utah women to Wikipedia. You can work at your own pace and schedule, but we'll be on Zoom every Friday morning at 10 am to walk you through things and answer questions - sessions will be recorded and added to our site. Follow the link for more information about how to get an assignment and get started! #WomenOnWikipedia #UtahWomensHistory

Utah State Archives:

Help Us Transcribe Utah History!

Have you ever wondered how records get indexed and pages get transcribed? The truth is, it is a big job and we could use your help! The Utah Division of Archives and Records Service is thrilled to announce that we have partnered with From The Page, an online program for transcribing documents and collaborating on transcriptions with others. You can transcribe anytime, anywhere! All you need is a computer with internet, the ability to read 19th and 20th century handwriting, and an interest in Utah history.

The first project we need help with is the John D. Lee Case Files, which are records of the trial concerning his involvement in the 1857 Mountain Meadows Massacre. Lee was convicted and executed in 1877. Click here to start transcribing: http://bit.ly/2QcYU5V
