Why higher education? To be able to have the job I have dreamed of and repay the sacrifices that my parents have made for me to have a better life than they did.

Why SLCC: It is accessible and gives me the flexibility I need between my life, work, and school.

"Graduating from college is a big deal. My parents are more excited than I am for commencement, I am shy and don't feel comfortable with attention, but I am doing it for my parents. This is the achievement of all the sacrifices they've made."

What motivates you or inspires you at school or in life: Knowing that I am not alone in any of what I go through. There is always someone who has gone through what I have and is willing to give me advice.

Meaningful life or career lessons you have learned so far: You can’t help others if you can’t help yourself.

Family: I have both my parents and two younger siblings.

Hobbies: I love reading and watching movies.

Awards/accomplishments:

● Diploma of Merit in World Languages

What does it mean to be a PACE student: To me, it means community. I was able to meet amazing friends through PACE. I also had an advisor who guided me through what being a college student looks like. I am a first-generation student, so PACE helped me navigate college and I didn’t feel too lost or overwhelmed because of all the people who helped me through it.

HB 261 and HB 257 Frequently Asked Questions

While there are many unknowns about the ultimate effect these bills will have on some student and staff support programs, be assured that SLCC will maintain an environment where all can find success and feel a sense of belonging. In the coming months, college leadership will work to gain clarity and determine the changes necessary for legislative compliance. We will also share this information as it becomes available.  We realize that during this time, some in our college community may feel unsettled and stressed. We encourage you to make use of available SLCC resources designed to support y
