SLCC Receives Talent Ready Utah Grant for Manufacturing and Transportation Workforce Training

Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) was one of three Utah colleges to receive funding from Talent Ready Utah to develop new Utah Works programs serving the transportation and manufacturing industries.

Talent Ready, which is housed within the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE), awarded $873,090 to SLCC, Bridgerland Technical College and Weber State University.

“This grant allows us to offer a broader range of short-term workforce certificate programs and training that align with the needs of the local job market,” explains Rick Bouillon, associate vice president, SLCC Workforce and Development. “These programs are designed in collaboration with industry leaders to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce.”

This grant removes financial barriers by covering the cost of tuition for any Utah resident interested in pursuing training in these certificate programs. “This increases accessibility, allowing more students to gain the skills and credentials needed for career advancement and higher earning potential,” adds Rick.

Grants totaling $710,930 will be used to fund three new Utah Works program, including:

  • Principles of Scientific Molding, Salt Lake Community College
  • VFD and PLC Systems, Salt Lake Community College
  • CDL, Bridgerland Technical College

A grant totaling $162,160 will be used to fund a Cybersecurity and IT Infrastructure Apprenticeship Program at Weber State University under the Talent Ready Connections initiative.

“We are pleased to award Bridgerland Technical College, Salt Lake Community College and Weber State University more than $873k in combined funding to support the manufacturing, transportation and cybersecurity industries,” said Dave R. Woolstenhulme, commissioner of higher education. “These programs will serve more than 275 Utah students and connect them to in-demand occupations.”
