Utah students competing in SkillsUSA at Salt Lake Community College

Salt Lake Community College recently hosted the yearly State SkillsUSA competition throughout various campuses. Hundreds of High School and post-secondary students had the opportunity to showcase their skills and talents, which they have been acquiring and fostering through the guidance of their professors during the academic year. Prepared with their knowledge and relevant tools to their field, students competed against their counterparts to showcase their skills and earn themselves a place in nationals, which will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, in June 2023.

SLCC students, who are no strangers to SkillsUSA competition, participated in 23 contests out of the 80+ categories, individually and in teams. There were 55 SLCC students representing the institution and 38 of them placed in the top three. The placements look as follows: 19 contestants placed first in their categories, 11 contestants placed second, and eight SLCC students placed third place.

Congratulations to all the SLCC students who participated and remarkably represented the College. Congratulations to the instructors and advisors who have helped strengthen and foster the skills and talents of SLCC students, encouraging them to participate in competitions and preparing them as professionals for their future careers.

SLCC Business School is Utah’s First to be Named Exclusively After a Woman

Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) proudly announces a partnership with the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation to modernize its Business Building and transform its School of Business. The improvements are made possible through a generous $10 million gift from the Miller Family Foundation and Gail Miller, the largest-ever single cash donation received by the college.  SLCC is renaming its Business Building the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Business Building in honor of the Miller family’s legacy and contributions to the community. The business school will be named the Gail Miller School of Business in recognition of the strong business acumen Gail Miller displays as a community leader and as the owner and immediate past chair of the Larry H. Miller Company. This name change will make SLCC home to the only business school in Utah and one of only a few in the country to be named exclusively after a woman.  “We are deeply humbled by the generosity of Gail and the Miller fam
