The Grand Theatre will present 'Not the Messiah' April 5-6, 2013. Originally commissioned by the Luminato festival in 2007, 'Not the Messiah' is a spoof of George Frederich Handel’s oratorio 'Messiah'. The comedic oratorio is based on Monty Python's 'Life of Brian', and was written and scored by Eric Idle and John Du Prez, creators of Monty Python’s 'Spamalot'. The play had its world premiere in at the Luminato festival in Toronto, Canada, on 1 June 2007 in Roy Thomson Hall.
The Grand Theatre production is the regional premiere of the oratorio, and features local actors and singers, including Dave Hanson, Marcie Jacobsen, Anthony Buck, and others.
The show plays two nights: Friday, April 5th and Saturday April 6th, at 7:30 p.m. The Grand Theatre is located at 1575 S. State Street in Salt Lake City.
