  1. Sign Up  by Oct. 16  to qualify and get updates  
  2. Complete four clock hours of professional learning between Jun. 1–Dec. 1, 2020.  
  3. Submit Proof  of completion such as a certificate, email from the instructor, or department letter.

Join SLCC Faculty presenting webinars that address online learning in all courses. No registration in the SLCC Registration system, but you will need to register on TYCA-GSOLE’s website: gsole.org/News-and-Events. No compensation is available for adjunct faculty.


Tech Tips for Teaching

Join Deidre Tyler for tech tips that promote sustainable development. In this new teaching environment, the questions that are asked are:  What can I do to create a learning environment that is sustainable? What are some things that we can do in the educational environment that does not change each semester? One theory that we will discuss Replacement, Amplification and Transformation (RAT model). The tools that we will discuss are hyperdocs, Ted-x talks, Break-out rooms and reflection.

Because Internet: Understand the New Rules of Language

Many people think the internet is ruining language and writing abilities, but this learning community will show you that language and writing is more alive and dynamic than ever before! Session one has passed, but we invite you to join us for session two: Chapters 4–5 and session three: Chapters 6–8. 

 

How to be an Antiracist

Join the Humanities and Languages department in a discussion for the book titled How to be an Antiracist, by Ibram Kendi. The group will read the first 150 pages for this first meeting. All staff and faculty are invited to attend.

OLC Accelerate 2020 Virtual Conference

You are invited to attend VIRTUALLY the Online Learning Consortium's Accelerate 2020 conference. SLCC’s eLearning team has purchased an “unlimited” all campus pass to the eight-day conference. Sessions will be streamed live from the OLC national conference in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. You are welcome to view any session from wherever you are as your schedule allows. Registered participants also get access to recordings of all sessions, which will be available within 24 hours after each session concludes and are available for one year after the conference. Most sessions will be webcast via Zoom.


The general high-level schedule of activities is available here — eLearning’s registration does NOT cover any pre-conference workshops. 


The detailed schedule of sessions is available here — click the STREAMED SESSIONS tab to view the sessions available virtually. Note that all session times in the online program are listed in EASTERN STANDARD TIME.

Quality Matters at SLCC—Annual Update Meeting 2020

Join us for eLearning's annual update on the Quality Matters initiative at SLCC. This meeting is for: 

  • All full-time faculty who are interested in the Quality Matters initiative at SLCC
  • All full-time faculty who have conducted Quality Matters course reviews, or who are interested in doing these reviews 
  • All eLearning staff who have conducted QM course reviews 

The purpose of this meeting is to: 

  • Review the status of Quality Matters and QM reviews at SLCC 
  • Review the qualifications for QM reviewers at SLCC 
  • Discuss QM standards that might be difficult to interpret, so we can be more consistent course reviewers 
  • Answer your questions about Quality Matters 

This meeting will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams. You will receive instructions for accessing the meeting in a separate email.

SLCC Alumnus and U.S. Diplomat to Speak at 2025 Commencement

Salt Lake Community College’s 2025 Commencement speaker Branigan Knowlton will share his perspectives drawn from a 12-year career as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. In serving his country, Knowlton has honed his foreign relations and diplomacy skills in Hong Kong, Mexico, Colombia and Italy. Knowlton is also a proud Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) alumnus (2002).     Knowlton currently serves at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. Before reporting to the embassy, he was detailed to the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport as part of the Transatlantic Diplomatic Fellowship program. In Bogotá, Knowlton worked for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, and in Hermosillo, Mexico, he worked for the Bureau of Consular Affairs. Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation. A committee chosen by the Associate Provost for Learning Advancement selects the faculty lecturer each year. The lecture takes place in the spring. Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering Dr. Andrew Vogt’s teaching philosophy is guided by two principles, curiosity and efficiency.  “Curiosity leads us to study a topic and allows us to really understand the ins and outs of research, while efficiency is all about sustainability,” he says. Andrew describes curiosity as a pure, open-minded impulse to explore, such as the ease with which children learn new concepts with virtually no instruction.
