As a student of philosophy since 1992, Jane Drexler has come to believe that "we are all the stuff of philosophy," as everyone struggles for meaning, self-purpose and a path to happiness. Drexler's faculty lecture will explore the value of philosophy by presenting a series of student workshops she developed using "philosophical exercises."

How to be an Antiracist

Join the Humanities and Languages department in a discussion for the book titled How to be an Antiracist, by Ibram Kendi.  The group will read the first 150 pages for this first meeting.  All staff and faculty are invited to attend.

Tech Tips for Teaching Series

Join Deidre Tyler for tech tips that promote sustainable development. In this new teaching environment, the questions that are asked are:   What can I do to create a learning environment that is sustainable? What are some things that we can do in the educational environment that does not change each semester? The last series will focus on tech creating a positive learning environment using tech tools that help learner engagement. We will discuss the Addie theory of instructional design. Tips on how to create better videos will be discussed. In addition, we will focus on how engaging videos can create a positive classroom environment on-line. We will discuss More ways to engage students with broadcast teaching using thinglink, nearpod and other tools.

OLC Accelerate 2020 Virtual Conference

You are invited to attend VIRTUALLY the Online Learning Consortium's Accelerate 2020 conference. SLCC’s eLearning team has purchased an “unlimited” all campus pass to the eight-day conference. Sessions will be streamed live from the OLC national conference in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. You are welcome to view any session from wherever you are as your schedule allows. Registered participants also get access to recordings of all sessions, which will be available within 24 hours after each session concludes and are available for one year after the conference. Most sessions will be webcast via Zoom. 

The general high-level schedule of activities is available here - eLearning’s registration does NOT cover any pre-conference workshops.

The detailed schedule of sessions is available here - click the STREAMED SESSIONS tab to view the sessions available virtually. Note that all session times in the online program are listed in EASTERN STANDARD TIME.

Quality Matters at SLCC—Annual Update Meeting 2020

Join us for eLearning's annual update on the Quality Matters initiative at SLCC. This meeting is for:
-All full-time faculty who are interested in the Quality Matters initiative at SLCC.
-All full-time faculty who have conducted Quality Matters course reviews, or who are interested in doing these reviews
-All eLearning staff who have conducted QM course reviews

The purpose of this meeting is to:
-Review the status of Quality Matters and QM reviews at SLCC
-Review the qualifications for QM reviewers at SLCC
-Discuss QM standards that might be difficult to interpret, so we can be more consistent course reviewers
-Answer your questions about Quality Matters

This meeting will be held virtually on Microsoft Teams. You will receive instructions for accessing the meeting in a separate email.

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students: The Utah Legislature recently passed two bills that significantly impact higher education:  HB 261  Equal Opportunity Initiatives and HB  257  Sex-Based Designations for Privacy, Anti-Bullying, and Women’s Opportunities.
