Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) Men's Basketball Head Coach Todd Phillips
formally announced the addition of highly-touted recruit Casey
Oliverson to the team's 2012-13 roster on Tuesday. Oliverson, a graduate
of Sky View High School
(SVHS), stands at 6-foot-8 and weighs in at 215 pounds. The addition of
Oliverson fills a big need for the Bruins in the paint at the
center/power forward position(s).
“Casey brings a big, strong and athletic body to our team. I think he's
one of the premier big-men in the State. He's a huge pickup for us,”
said Coach Phillips. “We're excited to have Casey be a part of our
program. Casey had an outstanding summer AAU season playing with the
Utah Pump N Run. Casey was the best big man on the floor most of the
summer. I believe he can bring that same motor and toughness to Salt
Lake.”
Oliverson led the Sky View H.S. Bobcats to a 16-6 overall record in 2011-12, and a 7-3 finish in 4A's Region 5. With Oliverson's strong post play, the Bobcats tied for first place in Region 5 with rival Logan High School. Oliverson averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds in his final two years at Sky View H.S., and was a First-Team All-State player in 2012. Casey has been pursued by several Division 1 programs, but chose Salt Lake. He joins several new faces on the Bruin roster in 2012-13.
