College Offering Free Online Summer Workshops for Community

With social distancing still in play for the upcoming long summer days, Salt Lake Community College has created a menu of free virtual workshops intended to improve lives and keep people connected during these challenging times.

SLCC is offering more than 30 short workshops, most in the form of free one- to three-hour webinars, WebEx, Zoom and online sessions and video conferences. Workshop subjects range from saving energy at home, being mindful in a time of crisis and other self-help areas to learning about HTML coding, how to video conference with family and friends, genealogy, making souffles and job-related topics like starting a business or building your brand through social media.

The workshops can accommodate between 20 and 100 people and require registration in advance. Registration opens May 4, with workshops beginning on May 18 and final sessions offered until July 16.

Community involvement has always been a driving interest of SLCC. The college strives to support its students and build the communities it serves as best it can, and it’s especially important in extraordinary circumstances like these. This free workshop offering is another way that SLCC can do its part to keep the health and stewardship of the broader community in mind. The workshops are also an excellent opportunity for SLCC to share its depth and breadth of diverse knowledge and rich experiences coupled with a commitment to share this expertise and humanity with the larger community.

As Utah continues to move toward a return to normal, SLCC would like to remind everyone to stay safe and follow the guidelines set forth by our local health departments, recommendations from the CDC and to be kind to everyone you meet. Together everyone can get through these tough times; and together everyone can continue to grow through free educational opportunities like these offered from Salt Lake Community College.

HB 261 and HB 257 Frequently Asked Questions

Dear Faculty, Staff and Students: The Utah Legislature recently passed two bills that significantly impact higher education:  HB 261  Equal Opportunity Initiatives and HB  257  Sex-Based Designations for Privacy, Anti-Bullying, and Women’s Opportunities. Salt Lake Community College is deeply committed to our students, faculty, and staff. We strive to be a place where all are welcomed and respected. While there are many unknowns about the ultimate effect these bills will have on some student and staff support programs, be assured that SLCC will maintain an environment where all can find success and feel a sense of belonging. In the coming months, college leadership will work to gain clarity and determine the changes necessary for legislative compliance. We will also share this information as it becomes available.  We realize that during this time, some in our college community may feel unsettled and stressed. We encourage you to make use of available SLCC resources designed to support y
