eLearning

Canvas User Credential

A 12-hour, fully online course. It is currently open for registration, and registrants can start begin immediately. The last day to register is July 8. The course must be completed by August 8.


Online Teacher Credential

A 12-hour, fully online course that starts on June 1 and ends on  July 13. The last day to register is this Wednesday, May 27. Faculty must be proficient in Canvas or earn the Canvas User Credential prior to taking the Online Teacher Credential course.

Open Textbook Network Online Summit

The Summit is an opportunity for the higher education community to learn, share, and connect with one another around open education, both in terms of vision and practice. Some programs will be limited to new and returning OTN members, but many will be open more broadly. We will have recordings available following most sessions. Sessions live June 15–25. Registration through the OTN website is required.

Writing Across the College

 

GrammarPhobia Follow-Up Fun Writing Workshops

You asked for it!  We’ve got it! This summer, the WAC program will host playful, interactive workshops to scratch your grammar itch!  After an introduction to the SLCC Style Guide, participants will share their most frustrating, or feared, grammar questions. Together, we’ll use the style guide to get to the right answer for you!

CW12 – Creating a Desk Manual Two-Part Workshop Series for SLCC Staff

There’s nothing like a pandemic to motivate us to get our desk manuals and office instructions in order! The WAC program is providing a two-part workshop series to help you get it done. First, watch the Writing Effective Instructions video. Second, draft a set of instructions for one of your job responsibilities. Third, register for one of the WebEx Creating a Desk Manual Virtual Meetings below. In the workshop, you’ll share a draft with Tiffany Rousculp, the WAC Director, and three other participants. You’ll get feedback on your draft and will give feedback to the other participants.

Brain Works and Hacks

Participants will learn about how the brain impacts our communication and behavior (i.e., What happens when we feel under “threat” or not safe?) and what we can do to keep our brain functioning at full capacity.

SLCC Alumnus and U.S. Diplomat to Speak at 2025 Commencement

Salt Lake Community College’s 2025 Commencement speaker Branigan Knowlton will share his perspectives drawn from a 12-year career as a Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State. In serving his country, Knowlton has honed his foreign relations and diplomacy skills in Hong Kong, Mexico, Colombia and Italy. Knowlton is also a proud Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) alumnus (2002).     Knowlton currently serves at the U.S. Embassy in Rome. Before reporting to the embassy, he was detailed to the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport as part of the Transatlantic Diplomatic Fellowship program. In Bogotá, Knowlton worked for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, and in Hermosillo, Mexico, he worked for the Bureau of Consular Affairs. Recognizing SLCC's 2025 Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering

The Distinguished Faculty Lecturer is a recognition of quality work by one of Salt Lake Community College’s full-time faculty and a charge to develop that work over an academic year into a public presentation. A committee chosen by the Associate Provost for Learning Advancement selects the faculty lecturer each year. The lecture takes place in the spring. Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Andrew Vogt, PhD Associate Professor, Engineering Dr. Andrew Vogt’s teaching philosophy is guided by two principles, curiosity and efficiency.  “Curiosity leads us to study a topic and allows us to really understand the ins and outs of research, while efficiency is all about sustainability,” he says. Andrew describes curiosity as a pure, open-minded impulse to explore, such as the ease with which children learn new concepts with virtually no instruction.
