Make an Appointment to Get Tested for COVID in January

We’ve made it through an extraordinary and difficult year! Congratulations on persevering through Fall semester and for doing your part to prevent COVID-19 at SLCC. During the last four months, our case count has been low, and we’ve experienced very little spread of the virus on campus. Thank you for helping keep our community safe and healthy.

With the end of each semester comes the start of a new one, and preventing the spread of COVID-19 will continue to be a priority for SLCC during the next few months. One mitigation effort we will employ is COVID testing for all on-campus students, faculty and staff as early in the semester as possible. If you will be on campus at least one day per week during Spring semester, please make the time to get tested. To help in this, SLCC is implementing the following testing schedule :

January 5-7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Taylorsville Redwood Campus Student Center.

Starting January 11, testing will be available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at both the Taylorsville Redwood and South City campuses. The South City testing location is at CCM 1-110.

You MUST be asymptomatic in order to participate in on-campus testing. If you have symptoms of COVID-19, you will be directed to pursue off-campus testing and self-isolate while you wait for your results.

Testing appointments can be made online. From start to finish, testing should take no more than 2 minutes, and your results will be emailed to you the same day.

For students who qualify for on-campus testing, if you get tested at one of our locations by January 22, you will receive a $10 credit on your OneCard. This credit can be used at your convenience at any campus location where OneCards are accepted for payment, including food courts and bookstores.

The Center for Prior Learning Receives an Honorable Mention

Today, SLCC's Credit for Prior Learning department received an Honorable Mention from the  Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL ) and the  Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education  for its intentional approach and for expanding student options to receive credit for prior learning.  Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)  allows students to obtain college credit for knowledge and skills acquired outside of the traditional academic environment. This is exceptionally beneficial for adult learners, who, according to CAEL, have a 17% higher chance of graduating compared to those adults who don’t earn credits through prior learning programs. The CPL department at SLCC was created in 2020 and since then the volume of students served has grown as the department continues to expand. To be eligible for CPL, students must be working towards a degree, certificate, or apprenticeship. Director of Credit for Prior Learning at SLCC, Andrea Tipton, mentioned fee...
