Salt Lake Community College is pleased to announce it has named the new Jordan Student Center for long-time SLCC supporters Tim and Brenda Huval. Tim is an SLCC alumnus and former employee at the college. He and Brenda have both committed much time and financial support toward the success of SLCC students.
Currently under construction at the Jordan campus and set to open in January 2021, the Tim and Brenda Huval Student Center will serve as a dynamic hub for students, supporting their success through student engagement opportunities, academic and career advising, financial aid, childcare and a health and counseling center. The Huvals’ gift to SLCC will go directly to student scholarships, with particular emphasis on students in health sciences programs.
“Brenda and I are incredibly honored to be a part of this opportunity to help so many students pursue their hopes and dreams,” said Tim Huval. “Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to be given chances that helped us personally and professionally, like the chance SLCC gave me to get the education and confidence needed to get started. In turn, we are passionate about giving back and providing opportunities for others to take the next steps in fulfilling their goals.”
Tim and Brenda Huval have a long relationship with SLCC. Tim graduated from the college in 1989 with an associate’s degree in business management. He also received an honorary doctorate from SLCC in 2007. Tim is currently the Chief Administrative Officer of Humana, Inc., and he is slated to offer the college’s 2021 Commencement keynote address. Over the years, the Huvals have contributed to the college’s student scholarship programs, and the South City childcare center carries their name.
“We are honored that the Huvals, our amazing friends, have opted to again support our students,” said SLCC President Deneece G. Huftalin. “They have been remarkably generous partners for many years and have personally experienced the transformative power of education. I am so proud that SLCC has been a part of their journey and that together we can continue to impact students’ lives. My gratitude for their collaboration, generosity and kindness is immeasurable.”
